Fort Lauderdale, FL – Saturday, November 19 will mark the City of Fort Lauderdale’s first annual Mangrove Awareness Day. Coming appropriately during the City’s Centennial year, the day is designed to call attention to the historic significance and ongoing importance of the mangrove in maintaining South Florida’s delicate ecosystem.
South Florida based Kids Ecology Corps, the non profit 501c(3) organization whose mission it is to inspire young people to take positive eco-action and make environmental stewardship a part of everyday life, will mark the event with mangrove plantings at the 9 AM opening of the Bill Keith Preserve, 3.4 acres of undeveloped property located along the north shore of the River at SW 17th Street and SW 18 Avenue, in the southwest Shady Banks neighborhood.
Kids Ecology Corps will receive a proclamation acknowledging its long-time commitment and programming efforts to educate and promote mangrove awareness at the City Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 15.
